PPP1 Research: The Owl

For part of our research we have to look at our favourite animations, and complete reviews on them every now and then so the first one which I wanted to look at was a mini animation that was featured on the BBC earlier in the year entitled The Owl. It was a series of animations that where published every day for a while about an owl that lived in a tree; which bad things happened to it.

The video above is an example of what the series is like which features this little pink owl. This link which I have posted above is one of my favourites due to the witty humour that is being displayed and how cleverly it has been developed. Even if there is slight violence in it, you can’t help but laugh and feel sorry for the owl as it is just trying to have a peaceful day but in each episode something seems to happen to it which injures it in some way.

The animation has been put together wonderfully and look beautiful and moves with weight and gravity in mind, which makes it appear more realistic, and it is really nice the way that it interacts with the other objects as well. Even though the background is very simple it works well as to not draw attention away from the main character and what is happening in the foreground, which is how it should be in simple animations like this one.

As already said the animation is of a superb quality that probably couldn't be beaten as it does look wonderful, especially when played in HD. The graphics are well used and even in a few years time it wouldn't look dated as it probably couldn't be improved further, and this is also due to the cartoon nature of it. The music that is used in the background is very comical and makes it seem like it is part of a fairground stand; this combined with the small pops of the targets being hit works well as they are all very simple but works so well to become a wonderful little animation that combines not only great graphics and an animation but also very good whit which makes it very comical.
