The next animation which I looked at for my personal practice was a short animation which was created by Pixar, entitled For The Birds. This animation short features a series of birds would land on a telephone line and start bickering among each other, until a massive bird comes along. They then proceed to bully the bigger bird and make fun of it until it lands on the telephone wire, making it stretch downwards nearly to the ground. The smaller birds bully the bigger one off until they realise that doing so will fire them all upwards, but it’s too late for them and as a result they lose all of their feathers and the bigger bird then laughs at them. This is a wonderful short film created by Pixar as it not only is amusing to the audience but also contains a valuable lesson; to not be a bully to others. The animation itself has been executed perfectly and doesn’t have any faults in the production; something which would be expected from Pixar as it is a well known, popular company which produces fabulous animations.
After looking at the general storyline, it is clear why this animation is so popular; it is wonderful to watch and probably one of my earliest memories of an animation short. The animation for me is just perfect and the graphics are brilliant. Each feather on the birds can be seen and the way they ruffle them are just wonderful as this represents a real bird even though they are cartoons.
The music that is used throughout the animation is wonderful fun and free, it is very upbeat and keeps in track well with the rest of the animation as this too is very cartoony, simple and happy. When it comes to the sound of the smaller birds these are very high pitched and squeaky, which suits them well and they are very rude to the larger bird, which has a much deeper more comical hoot which makes the bird seem very simple; and this is also demonstrated by how clumsy he is too and the way he sits at the end and blows the feathers up in the air by himself.
