PPP2 Idea/Project Toolkit

Idea/Project Toolkit: Framework for Creative Idea/Project Analysis

During today's PPP2 session we looked into creative ways in which we could look at ideas and solve problems at the beginning of projects. We first started by looking at mind maps and how the best way to draw and then review them is by following the steps below and use:
- Lots of colour, to stimulate the brain
- Curvy line, as the brain remembers them better
- Picture, to illustrate points so the brain will remember them better
- Tick to thin lines, to show the ideas are getting more in depth and more accurate

We then looked at the way in which we can solve problems in the idea process by following the mnemonic SCAMPER. By following this we are able to get a better understanding of the problem and it can help eliminate unnecessary parts and ensure the best parts of it are perfected.

Substitute
Combine
Adapt
Modify
Put to Another Use
Eliminate
Reverse

Finally we then looked at SWOT, which is a technique for being able to evaluate yourself and look at how it can then be used to help in upcoming projects and any other future experiences.

Strengths
Weaknesses
Opportunities
Threats

We then looked at how we could use SWOT on ourselves to be able to see the best about us and then to also show any weaknesses or threats that we could come across in what we want to be able to do in the future or just in any projects that we are doing at the moment.

Strengths:
- I have experience in team management
- I am well organised and always have the right equipment with me
- I am usually on time and have good leadership skills

Weaknesses:
- Improve my time keeping during projects
- Commit to outside project and get them finished
- Don't aim to create things that are not possible, start small and work my way up

Opportunities:
- Getting my work out on the internet for everyone to see
- Learning new skills, especially on Mudbox as I am really interested in that software
- Starting to show more work to a wider audience

Threats:
- Competition in creating game environments or assets
- Any distractions from anything around me, especially video games
- Time management. Do I have time to complete this project?

After all of this we are able to see how weaknesses can be converted into strengths or minimised to simplify the game, strengths can match opportunities and threats can be converted to opportunities or avoided.
