Summer Work

Over the summer I have been looking into LOTS of different games and watching different films to be able to compare them to each other and write reviews about them. I really enjoyed everything that I watched over the summer, and ending up going to the cinema at least once a week to catch nearly every film that has come out over this summer, since May, and I have wrote reviews for most of them so far; which will be up shortly.

Throughout the summer games have also played a massive part, as I have been so addicted to everything I have got and played over the summer. Again like the films, every game review will be up in time, but I thoroughly enjoyed all of the games which I have played, some more than others but each one had its own character and individual game experience.

Along with watching a lot of films and playing a lot of games I also tried to create an environment to show when I went back to uni. This proved a lot harder than I thought it would just to be able to create a basic idea for an environment. In the end I thought about creating a simple village but giving it an industrial twist as if it was set in the future. I became extremely excited by the idea of creating this and did a few quick sketches and started planning out the streets in Maya. I had originally planned to create some kind of market street but once it took me so long to create the buildings that I became quickly bored with the idea and the amount of polygons in the scene was making it too slow to run and I ended up scrapping the idea.

After that idea fell through I then thought about how else I could create an environment and found that I had a few ideas floating around after playing through the Spyro games again. I now wanted to create a simple environment that uses the same kind of features that the original games had. I wasn't to sure about what to base my idea on but I started a few ideas and came up with a series of floating islands that are suspended above water. Again I was very excited at the beginning and when I was modelling but once it came to texturing I realise again that I didn't like this part and I did run out of time towards the end of summer; as it took me that long to think of an idea.
