Context of Practice 3: Tick Tock Unlock Experience

Last week me, Stuart Brown, Callum Brown and Sophie Kirk went to Tick Tock Unlock which is an event that is in Leeds in a office building just off The Headrow. As I now knew what kind of game I was going to be making for COP I knew this was going to be a really nice opportunity to get involved with. The idea behind TTU is that you are put into a room and you have 60 minutes to escape, much like the video game The Room, in which you have to solve a series of puzzles in order to get keys and gain codes to get out of the room.

It was one of the best experiences I have ever been to and it was totally worth the money. It is definitely pressurising and the 60 minutes goes so quickly. When first arriving, you are greeted and taken into a room to be introduced to the game and everything that is going to happen. It was getting exciting now, and then we were taken into the room and locked in for 60 minutes, obviously not really locked in but it was exciting to think you were. You start off by generally looking around this room and looking for clues that will help you in figuring out what you need to find. It was a simple yet really fun beginning and we found a lot of things that didn't seem to make sense until you find that key piece and then everything falls into place and you realise theirs another room and you only have 20 minutes to go.

We stayed very calm through it all, and managed to get through all the puzzles, obviously with a lot of helps that come through on a screen in the first room from the people that run it who are their to guide you so you don't get to stuck on one puzzle for too long. Although finding it very challenging, my puzzle solving skills from playing games like The Room did come in handy and we actually made it out with about 2 seconds to spare which was fantastic. I would highly recommend this adventure to everyone who has an hour of free time and a little bit of spare money as it is totally worth it. You get such a sense of achievement when going through it and when you figure out a puzzle it feels so satisfying. It's truly wonderful and it makes it so much better going in not knowing anything, which is definitely a must!
