Personal and Professional Practice 3: 'Research' Studio Brief - Blizzcon 2014 Extra Bits

Blizzard Cosplay with Steve Dwyer
We then cut to a nice shot video about the work that Steve Dwyer does where he hold events every Tuesday and invites numbers of people to come along and build and help others with their cosplay outfits. It’s a really nice thing to do and these Craft Tuesday’s that he holds really get people excited about building these cosplay outfits and he is able to give them a number of materials to work with and help them out with resources as well.

The Art of War: The Lords of War
This next very short video was by Laurel Austin who is the senior illustrator at Blizzard Anvil; which is currently working on The Lords of War illustrated animations. She has been drawing all her life and does both traditional and digital artwork for most of it. This project is about creating individual paintings that tell a long story in one shot; it’s not quite illustration or animation. There is a small amount of movement in the scene and its usually represented with a different image. Instead of sticking with the original World of Warcraft look, which made the characters look very powerful and they usually had flashes of colour on them, they opted to go with darker colours and aimed to make some of the Orcs in scenes very week and had to think about what they would look like if they were under fed or close to death.

The process went through a number of different people and then also went through the director as well, the main stages being the story boarder’s to the final illustrator. They have to illustrate so much emotion in one shot which truly is difficult but it makes these really beautiful paintings in the end that really come together in the final animation.
