When looking back at the environment, I realised that it was missing something and that was an element to see in front of the character. I wanted there to be something guiding the player along and showing them where to go. As I really wanted to make the environment even darker I thought that this torch was a really nice addition to the overall environment.
I then looked more into creating the houses for the environment. I had planned for them to look fairly simplistic as they were going on a ridge that would be above the environment instead of being accessible to the player.
After putting them on the ridge I realised that they are fairly dark and couldn't be seen very well at this stage but for now I decided to leave it and go back to it later, but other areas of the level where looking good at this stage.
After looking more into Svalbard as a country I noticed this famous sign that they had to show caution to polar bears that could be wandering. I really liked the idea of having it in the scene even though it may not sit in the country where I have placed it. I think it's a really nice addition and the red colour contrasts against the blue adding in an element of danger into the scene.
Again, I had another look at adjusting the lighting just to ensure that it was looking the best possible, and I thought it was better, although additional adjustments could still be made in the future.
I then used some box meshes around some empty game objects to create barriers around the game world so that the player can only go straight down to the valley at the bottom.
Below is the second test of the environment, looking at how the lighting has improved and also the addition of the torch and the other objects in the environment.
