Extended Practice Final Concept Art for My Environment

I then moved onto creating the concept art for my own game level. This proved quite a lengthy process as I first wanted to create the hieroglyphics to go in the rooms and get them in order, along with creating the large paintings that will feature in the different rooms so that I could get a good idea about where everything is going to go when it comes to actually making the environment itself. I found that making the hieroglyph textures first made the whole concept art process much easier as I was able to switch them around with ease and mix and match different designs with ease.

Altogether I wanted to produce the concept art for all of the rooms that I created which meant to 12 pieces overall for the rooms themselves. This did seem like a lot of work but it was worth it to see the final result of the environment, I think the overall look is fantastic and is exactly how I want the final look of my environment to be. This process was definitely worth the time and effort and was a huge help when it came to them looking at designing the corridors in the environment as well. I decided at this stage to produce two different sets of concept art, one which showed the true colours of the level and one which showed how it could actually look if it was lit in the correct way which I thought was a very nice way of presenting the work.

I designed two different corridors looks for the environment as I wanted to show variety with the traps and also the types of corridor that I have in the level. I chose to stick with two purely because I already had a good idea of what the traps would look like and also knew what the walls, floors and pits looked like due to the rooms, so felt that it was unnecessary to produce too many.

I then moved onto creating my elevations for my level and decided that the best way of doing this was using the model that I had created in Maya and using the measurements from there to get accurate elevations from that instead. I took the whole level for this and captured the whole of the level in Maya and looked at adding in the measurements after I had taken the shots from the different angles.
