Final Laboratory Concept Art

Below I have done a moodboard of a lot of different labs so that I can get a good idea of how I am going to lay mine out. I wanted my lab to look brilliant in my final film as it will be where the first half of the film will be set. I looked at this range of different labs before then going off to design my own based off these resources that I collected.

Below is the final concept art for my laboratory that will be used for the first half of my film. I am really happy with how it looks and can't wait to start modelling it on Maya. I really like the overall look of the lab and I'm extremely happy with how it turned out, with confidence that it will end up looking good in my final film. I wanted to bring the essence of a messy work environment and ensure that there was test tubes and machinery and use the idea of an old lab but bringing in new things into it. I decided instead of developing six ideas first to just draw out the lab straight away due to time issues, but I like the way that it turned out anyway and I feel that my research into other labs really helped to be able to create this and then go onto making this in Maya. I wanted to put up two different versions of the lab, one to show it fully so that you could see all of the details clearly and then another to show what I would actually want the lab to look like, quite dark with just one of two lights in the centre to help cast shadows around the room.

I then also wanted to do a floor plan of my lab, due to the fact that I have an idea about spinning around my time machine I have decided to move it into the middle of my room as then it is the centre of attention and its the first thing you will see. By doing this floor plan I am then able to get an idea where everything goes when it comes to modelling this in Maya, and it will will allow me to model quicker and more effectively with multiple references to look at.
