STUDIO BRIEF 3 – ANIMATE
The next thing which I looked at was Gertie the
Dinosaur which was created by Winsor McCay in 1914. Each image was hand drawn
and then film, the same way in which J Stuart Blackton created his animation.
Although the animation is very rough, sketchy and looks old, it is still a
brilliant example of how far animation has come in such a short amount of time,
and also the fact that he hand drew it and put it together in this way is
remarkable as there is a lot of details to it. The general idea of the
animation is that the dinosaur will do what the man is saying, but there is a
slightly mischievousness to the way in which she does it; which is what makes
the animation so successful.
