Context of Practice: Initial Designs

Due to the fact that I knew that I wanted to go down the route of a path and have my character walk down it, I wanted to come up with a number of different, but simple, designs for the shape of the path. Although I originally said that I wanted to be no movement but forwards, this could be changed depending on the shape of the path, just then the character can move sidewards but will be resisted to just standing on the path.

Above are my 12 small designs for the path and I have tried to make all of them as unique as possible altering the road shape and how it winds around, and then also looking at the road thickness as well to see if it would make a difference. At this stage it could also be decided whether the path will wind up or down hill but depending on how complex it gets, that is something that will have to be looked at later on.

Overall I really like designs 2, 5, 7 and 10 as they are all very different paths that could be seen as an unusual layout. Number 2 is probably the most basic option just being a straight line but it is simple and could be quite effective depending on the level of detail that is added in the environment later. I then also like design 5, again because it is simple but has a little bit more to it instead of it just being a straight line. This offers the ability to have something new around every corner; which could be exciting to create. Then number 7 could also be interesting as you could start on the outside of the spiral and work your way in or do the opposite, progressing the story to maybe being freed into the big wide world after escaping the spiral. The last one is number 10 and again could be very unique and different to do as it offers the player multiple way to go. This could give me a lot to model but could also be an exciting prospect to complete although will push me for time. This is probably the only idea that could then be expanded into something of a maze with the voice over stating what he is feeling and where he is in a relation to the exit, again creating a really nice and interesting game prospect.
