Context of Practice: Top 3 Inspirational Games

After looking at a range of different games I narrowed my research down to three main games that gave me that me the most inspiration and these all looked at different types of environmental storytelling. Two of them using first person with a voice over guiding them through and the other which is very different and uses the first person and a simple path to follow, whether you kept to it or deviate is up to you.

The Stanley Parable
The first game that I have decided to look at in more detail is The Stanley Parable because it is a very unique and interesting game that is all just set in an office but creates an interesting atmosphere that cannot be beaten in terms of how perfect the voice over is in taking you on a journey.

Gone Home
The second game that I wanted to look at is Gone Home as this again like the Stanley Parable in the way that it uses a voice over to create the mood of the game, but there are definitely some noticeable differences which could make it the better game. The atmosphere alone of Gone Home is absolutely fantastic creating that eery and spooky house that has creaky floorboards and echos with the sound of thunder.

The Path
The last game which I wanted to look at is a little different as it is a third person game which doesn't feature a voice over. This time it is all set on a path which is brightly lit and will eventually take you to a house, which is an interesting idea, but if you deviate from the path you don't know what your going to find and whats going to be following you. In the woods you can find a number of things that will help with telling a story but there are also many things in there that would hurt you. As the player you have to make the decision to go into the woods or just stay on the boring path.
