Smackdown Games
Smackdown vs Raw 2007 had
professional wrestler MVP come the their studio to perform motion
capture stunts in a wrestling ring so they could later attach it to
their CGI model of the wrestler in the game. At this point this was a
fairly new concept to use motion capture in video games but developer
Yukes pushed the barrier further with these complex movements from
professional athletes. This allowed the movements to be exact even to
the personality and body language of the superstar, and also made the
wrestling moves more realistic than they either wise could have been.
This work clearly paid off as in my opinion this is the best feature of
the game, with such a physical sport requiring perfect posture and
action to the game play and sometimes story of the game, which defiantly
allows users to interact with their favourite wrestlers made more
believable with the use of motion capture.
Many of the Smackdown games now also use their own in game software for the player to be able to create their own cinematic cut scenes at the beginning of the fight. Although they are always pre rendered and loaded into the game already, the player can use these to be able to compile their own entrance into the arena and this allows a lot of original customisation, and also offers the players the ability to be able to share their entrances online and share them. This is some way is like them creating their own kind of machinima as they are able to use the already made stances and moves to be able to create a unique entrance for their own characters.

Beyond Two Souls
Another quite obvious game that uses motion capture is Beyond Two Souls. Immediately after looking at this game you know that it uses MoCap as a technique in creating it due to the entire nature of the game. It's not actually like playing a game but watching an interactive movie in which you control where the actor goes and what they do in the situations. There are points where the characters can talk and interact with others and their are moments when you can make decisions that wouldn't normally be in gaming environments. The different with this game to many others is that it doesn't really contain cut scenes as the whole game is like playing one big one that you can have influence over. This is taking that original gaming experience of being able to influence the cut scenes to a whole new, but brilliant level.
You essentially play as a girl and follow her entire life and choose how she completes in a way. There are parts where you take full control over the situation and can choose the outcome, choose who is saved and who isn't. This idea of using game play like this is brilliant and is definitely influenced by the performance of the characters, as it is just like they are in their own acting role. Ellen Page, who plays main character Jodie does a fantastic job using motion capture throughout the entire game and you can see her influence into the character through how she animates her body and how she speaks to others and in what tone. Its really like watching a giant film that you can interact and emote with and is a fantastic idea for future games to take control of.
