2nd to the 8th of March 2015
This week was extremely exciting and I was able to get on with my character creation for Keith. Mid way through we did have a presentation but me and Sophie where more than prepared for it and showed off all of our research and development work to our class and received some really good and motivating feedback from it.
I was then motivated to get on with modelling the character, and after a few set backs with Maya crashing a few times and me loosing bits of my work here and there, modelling was fairly straight forward and I am really happy with the look I'm producing. At the same time Sophie is working on the enemy character, and we thought it was crucial to work near each other during this stage and keep each other updated about what we are doing and how well the process is going to ensure that the characters look like they belong in the same game.
Character creation did take a little longer than anticipated though to ensure that it was right and this was mainly due to me experimenting with the new Maya 2015 auto UV unwrapping to test that out. In the end I didn't like it as it would have been more suited it we were aiming for a high poly mesh and taking it into Mudbox to play with it further, but we were aiming for a low poly look that was very cartoony and different and I found that it was easier to unwrap the model myself, putting me a little behind schedule, but I was able to get the texturing done fairly quickly, finding a really nice fur brush online to create the fur pattern on him.
After last week this week felt a lot slower and less progressed but the character is coming along nicely and there is still a lot of time to get everything done over the next few week, but it is key to keep focused and work the same as we have been to ensure that we get everything done as we have set ourselves a rather big goal by the end.
