I the moved onto drawing out the storyboards needed for the different scenes. I really wanted to be able to capture as much action as possible in these scenes and ensured that I was able to capture them from the same angle we wanted the camera to be on. I think in the end they are very clear and it is simple to tell what is happening in each scene of the cutscenes, which is important going forward to create the actual scenes themselves.
I created most of the storyboards spanning through the game, apart from the ones for Sophie's level, which are 'Trouble in India' and 'Defeat of Honey in India', and think that they really turned out well. The shots clearly show everything that is happening in the scene and also the design of the levels as well to ensure that the right camera angle is used. They clearly show the story and the action at the same time and I have tried to use a variety of shots to show dynamic cut scenes instead of them just being about the dialog and one angle.
CUT SCENE -VOICE OVER - KEITH'S BACKGROUND INTRODUCTION
CUT SCENE - HUB WORLD - INTRODUCTION TO THE ANCIENTS
CUT SCENE - HUB WORLD - RECOVERING THE INDIAN RELIC
CUT SCENE - EGYPT - DEFEAT OF HONEY IN EGYPT
CUT SCENE - HUB WORLD - SHE'S NOT GOING DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT
Animating the Cut Scenes
I then moved onto looking at creating the cut scenes. This was a little bit annoying for us as we had planned a little more time in order to do this, and we wanted to ensure that they looked really good, but found that we didn't have enough time to get everything done, so we tried to animate as much as we could, focusing on the important sections first, and working our way through in order to create as much as possible.
I started by writing out the boards for the beginning part of the opening cut scenes which was just dialog and then any kind of background whether it be black or an image. We decided in the end that it would be nice to use some of the cut scene with the Ancient's in the background just doing there idle animations as this was something that we had already set up. This first opening cut scene went well and we didn't need to think about it too much.
We didn't manage to get any more done for the deadline, but we still have Games Republic and the End of Year show to work towards so that we are able to get the cut scenes done for that instead.
In the end I used a camera and panned it across the boards that I'd created to create the opening and then played the hub world theme in the background to ensure that it was working fully.
