PPP1 Research: Flight

After seeing the trailer for the movie Flight it really interested me to go and watch it as I believed that it would be a film that would look into and uncover facts about how the aeroplane crashed or happened about crashing. Once I had actually watched the film I realised that this was in fact a film about a man who was combating an alcoholic and drug addiction. During the film there were elements of it that did have a comedic value to them and these were funny; especially the ending in which he had to appear sober in court so snorts cocaine in order to do so, which makes the ending funny but also makes you feel that you are watching a completely different film to before; this is something that happens in other places in the film as well.

The film starts off in an interesting way as we see how Denzel Washington's character is normally and how his alcoholic problem controls everything that he does in his day to day life. After this we see him coolly correct himself and be able to successfully land a plane without a lot of help from his co-pilot; who throughout his role all he really did was shout and panic a lot during the crashing of the plane.

The plane scene itself was the one that I will remember seeing as it was beautifully enhanced with CGI and I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between if it had been real footage or not. That particular scene was exceptionally good to watch as it was spectacular to see an aeroplane fly completely upside down; which I believed to be impossible. After this scene the most interesting part of the film was the investigation into how the plane crashed in the first place and whether it was down to an engine malfunction or how much alcohol Washington's character had consumed.

Although there were really interesting parts to this film some aspects of it where quite dull as a lot of the film centered about his alcohol consumption and how he tried to remain sober and also maintain a relationship with a ex drug addict who end of leaving him due to the fact that he can't come to terms with his addiction. Although this would have been a good storyline for a film in general but I would have liked to see more of the investigation process in the film as it would have been interesting to find out how the plane malfunction actually happened.
