Storyboarding and General Ideas

To begin the project, I started by looking at 3D animations that were already out there in the market; starting with looking at the obvious companies such as Disney and Pixar and also the smaller companies to get a broad idea of how they should run and also to give me any basic ideas of what to do for my project.

As we were given a particular brief entitled X vs Y, I first read this to get an idea of what we had to do; which included selecting a particular simple toy to create on Maya and make the animation around this. There had to be two characters involved and they had to have some sort of involvement with the other whether it be a fight or a contest of some sort. The toy that I choose to look at where skittles and a ball as these where simple shapes that I could manipulate easily and this way I could also perfect my animation, which is something that I really want to improve.

After deciding on the toy that I was going to do I then started planning on what was going to happen in my animation and I did this by creating a storyboard and planning out a few of the key scenes on the 45 second animation. I wanted to follow the general idea that the ball is very friendly and wants to play with the skittles but they don't want to, so this upsets the ball but thinks it will be funny to knock them over anyway.
