Environment Research: Super Mario

One game series that I thoroughly enjoyed playing was the Super Mario games. These were a set of amazing games that were always so bright and colourful and were really a pleasure to play as they were always full of things to do and collect and there were just perfect games in my opinion.

The first game in this set was Super Mario 64 as it was a brilliant game and one that I enjoyed so much when I was younger. The basis of the game was much like many other Mario games that have been made - save Princess Peach from the clutches of some enemy; this one being the classic Mario vs Bowser game. Super Mario 64 is a classic action-adventure game that is set in a near enough 3D open world and follows Mario as he journeys through different levels to be able to go against Bowser in the final showdown.

Although this game is now aged, due to being made in 1996, the overall gameplay is still fun and very creative and enjoyable to interact with. The graphics could be better and in some aspects it does feel very floaty but apart from that each of the different levels offer enjoyment to play. In terms of the environment this is the reason I wanted to look at this game. They are very fun and creative and fit Mario's character perfectly due to how bright and colourful they both are. As Mario is very much a cartoon it is only right that this world should be too. The first world that we come to see is the Mushroom Kingdom and it is just as bright and bold as Mario making it well suited for the character; something that I need to consider in my own creation of an environment.

The second game that I really enjoyed from Nintendo was Super Mario Sunshine which was created in 2002 and again is an action-adventure game that requires helping the inhabitants of Isle Delfino from the graffiti spread by Shadow Mario. This game also includes gamers favourites like Princess Peach, Yoshi and Bowser to name a few. Like Super Mario 64 the gameplay is very similar in a way that you are in a 3D world and once again you must go against Bowser to help rescue Princess Peach who has once again stood there and let herself get kidnapped.

Although this damsel in, not so much distress, as she always appears very calm when someone snatches her away from Mario, may be getting old the new additions to Mario's team make things more interesting. F.L.U.D.D, a Flash Liquidising Ultra Dousing Device is found and Mario takes it upon himself to take it and help clean up the island from the mess that Shadow Mario has made. The new worlds are fantastic to explore and there are so many collectables to acquire making this the perfect game for me especially and the addition to F.L.U.D.D means that places can easily be reached using hover mode and enemies can be defeating in an all new way.
