Fear Research: Slender: The Eight Pages
Slender: The Eight Pages, originally known as just Slender is a free Indie survival horror game and is based on running away from the character Slender Man, who is known for abducting children in mysterious places.
The aim of this game is very similar to that of Amnesia in which is is a very slow moving game set in first person. Where fear comes into this game the most is due to the fact that the game is set outdoors in what appears to be an abandoned wood/forest in which the player must collect all eight pages located in different areas of the environment. Whilst doing this you will be watched, and you have to avoid meeting Slender Man, which is the tense part of this game where the fear aspect comes into play. Slender Man, a faceless humanoid with tentacles coming out from his back, will appear at moments throughout the game, usually when the player is close to death and will also teleport to seem to be moving after the player.
The sounds through this game vary, and again like most horror games they are very limited which is something that I needed to look at as well. When you are collecting the pages in this game is where the sound comes into it as it changes. As you collect more pages the sounds in the game become louder and more sinister, meaning that Slender Man could be closer. Even though the graphics of this game could be smoother, the game is brilliantly scary and the fact that the entire level is dark, apart from the torches like makes it even scarier, something that could be added into my own game level.
