Fake Blood Creation

We knew that during production we would have to use fake blood to create the scene in the background and we had to think of different ways in which we would create it and apply it.

We though first about using a recipe for fake blood using the ingredients stated below. We tested this and found that it worked well as we could easily adjust the thickness of the blood by adding in either water to make it thinner or chocolate sauce to make it thicker. We tested it on skin and found that it did look realistic but after a while we found that it started to sparkle in the light slightly due to the sugar content and this isn't the look that we wanted as the longer it was on the skin the faker it started to look.

- 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
- 1 tiny drop blue food coloring
- 1 tiny drop green food coloring (optional)
- 1 scant teaspoon flour, sifted
- 1 tablespoon corn syrup
- 1 small shallow glass or plastic bowl
- 1 toothpick
- Cooking spray
- Water (optional)
- Chocolate sauce (optional)
- Liquid laundry soap (optional)

The only other option that we could come up with was to use fake Halloween blood, which we picked up from a fancy dress store. We tested this and actually found that it worked really well so we decided to use this is the final bathroom scene.

We then had to think about how to apply it and I found that the best way was to use the edge of a piece of cardboard and drag it don slightly. This worked really effectively and I am confident that I am able to recreate this in the final bathroom scene as the make up artist on set.
