As I am now approaching my final week of my second year at Leeds College of Art I wanted to think about what it is that I want to focus on in my third year. For a while now I have known that I wanted to look at games and this year I have started to narrow this down to looking at game environments in particular. Over the course of this year I have become very interested in creating different environments and for nearly every brief this year I have been able to put this into practice and therefore have been able to put this into a really nice end of year show reel that I am very proud of.
So what next? Well, for this next summer and for the rest of my third year I definitely want to continue working on environments and probably stick to 3D although I am very open to begin looking at 2D if the opportunity arises. I really want to also improve my skills in Maya so I want to be able to continue looking through the Maya book that I started this year as the first chapter that I managed to get done was very helpful and informative and I learned a lot about the smaller details that Maya can create, which is definitely something that I want to improve on. Along with improving my skills further I want to be able to continue producing environments, probably aiming for smaller ones so that I can get a number of them done, roughly the same size as my Game Art and Machinima one as I managed to model all of this in a few hours. Therefore doing it this way means that I can get loads created, providing I have the relevant inspiration for creating them.
I also would like to start to create my own unique game environment style so that it is recognisable in the industry, if it ever makes it that far! I really would like to find a unique style that is simple for me to create but also creates an exciting impact and looks great at the same time. What I am also interested in, mainly as this is the main inspiration for my Context of Practice brief, is looking at how real environments can influence gaming ones. This is something that had interested me for a while now and it is an excellent opportunity to research it and put it into practice in creating my own game environment(s) that function in the same way.
