After I then moved onto creating the first out of four of the Ancient characters that are going to be in the hub world. I really loved the design of the two that I am creating and they were something different to create as they were in more interesting clothing than Keith himself. I first created Menes, the Egyptian Ancient who is the first one that you meet in the hub world as Egypt is the first level.
I then moved onto detailing his head, and he actually has very big ears, again making him appear a bit more humourous and fun but also a large nose as well to again add to the comedic value to the character and make him more likeable.
I then mirrored over the half of him that I had already made and then began adding in the extra details, like the belt, top part of his clothing and his head dress just to bring his character to life a little further.
UV Mapping
Texturing
I then moved onto texturing and started by applying a basic colour to test that it can be applied to the UV map correctly, and it was pretty good to begin with, there where only a few areas, like on the shoes and head dress that had to be altered in order for the texture to work correctly.
I then used a fur brush, as this is what I had used previously for Keith. This was actually the first model that I textured and I tested it out on here before I textured Keith, so I have the tests below from when I originally used a different texture.
The shot below shows the difference in quality between the original texture map I was going to use and the new one using the fur brush that I downloaded the difference is a lot better. The improvement on the model itself shows that the fur looks a lot better, even when it has been roughly applied.
This is the final look to the model and it has a really nice appealing look to it and it fits in well with the rest of the theme. I really like end look to him and the hand painted quality of him fits in well with the rest of the theme and the rest of the level and the characters.
Finally I added in a bump map onto the character but only on the fur so that it stood out slightly and created the ripples and movement of the fur more. I then also added in a specular map onto his as well, highlighting mainly his nose but also making his head dress and sandals slightly shiney as well and finalising the look. I really love the overall look to him and think he looks brilliant and really fits in with everything else as well.
