Target Audience Identification

As it is important for someone to have a target audience when they are in the industry I wanted to take a minute to have a look and see if I could identify which one I would fit into best. Obviously we have different categories of gaming and genres which each have unique target audiences, which there are again quite a few to look at. You have your younger generation, pretty much everybody else which ranges from teenagers, young adults, adults and the elderly, and you also have your mature games which are for again your young adults and adults most stereotypically.

Typically it would be obvious to fit a game into the everybody category but I feel that I do not want to do this, everybody is too open and not specific enough for my liking. Gaming I feel should be specific and then if other audience like it as well then that is fine, much like cartoons do this like the Simpsons. With this and in particular the games, they are meant for children/teenagers in particular, but because the TV series is so popular you will then get young adults, adults and even the elderly wanting to play them as well just down to how popular they are. This is a great example to follow in which you make something specific to a target audience and hope that it can branch into the others around it.

Therefore I would probably like to aim for a target audience of older children/teenagers as I feel that this is were gaming should be aimed. Getting a game that is dedicated to children nowadays is difficult unless it is based upon a TV show, and then in my opinion they are never that great. This is a market that could definitely be targeted successfully as it has so many opportunities for games and bringing back influence from older ones can definitely help in this situation as well. When I was growing up I mainly enjoyed games like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot and I feel that there are no games like this any more, so bringing back something like this to a younger target audience would be something that would be nice to do, just because it shouldn't just be my generation that got to experience such fantastic unique gaming, which is difficult to come by anymore.
